The season so far
Submitted by jimmy on 22 December, 2010 - 19:30We were relegated from the Premier League last season. We really didn't need to be, being only two wins from safety. I saw the team throw away at least 3 games they really should have won. Portsmouth at home and away, Wolves and probably unbelievably, Arsenal at Turf Moor. Since relegation, the people of my home town have been waiting in anticipation, and some trepidation, for the new season to begin. The great hope is that we do well enough in our new league to make an immediate return to the Premier League.
That this is possible isn't an argument. A club that did so well in the Premier League given our tiny status (we spent about 6 million on players while the nearest low spender spent a couple of tens of million I believe), should be able to handle the teams in the league below.
It hasn't been that way so far though. The team has had some poor results. Thrown away by what has to be bad management. Most of us worry that manager (and my ex babysitter, according to my dad) Brian Laws just isn't good enough.
We're just not clicking on the pitch, despite often looking dominant. The Leeds game was a travesty, going ahead and being in control of the game only to let Leeds back into it. We only had to keep possession and put the ball past their last man, keep a bit of pressure on.
Let's see what happens next. In February the table starts to tell a tale. My gut says it's not going to be particularly impressive.
